PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT THROUGH CONSULTATION AND CONTINUING EDUCATION |
Private Practice Building Building and maintaining a viable private practice requires attention to both obtaining referrals and keeping clients. A recent survey conducted by the Harvard Medical School found that 46% of the population will suffer from a diagnosable emotional disorder, and that anxiety disorders are the most frequent problems followed by mood disorders. A Consumers Report article found that client satisfaction with psychotherapy increased with length of treatment 6 months or longer. Workshops on Starting or Building a Private Practice discuss issues such as finding a niche, understanding your potential clientele, and developing an alliance. Practical consideration is given to setting up an office, developing forms, billing, and managed care. Information is presented on business formats, business plans, and steps to build a successful practice. Stress is placed on understanding consumer attitudes and on developing an alliance with clients. |
